Yes, I know its only July… But already the very organised committee that back the UK National VMUG event is already looking for presentations. In case the title of the blogpost isn’t a dead give away – the event is on Thursday, Nov 21st – and its been held in the same location for the third year running – National Motorcycle Museum, Coventry Road Bickenhill, Solihull, West Midlands, UK from 8am to 5pm.
One the nice things about the UK-VMUG Event (apart from the vCurry the night before – incidentally v does not mean vegetable) is that there one of the big VMUG events where they have a designated “Community Track” that is populated by genuine members of the VMUG, as opposed to the hired lackeys of vendors (like myself for example). I see it as one way to “ringfence” the principle of users contributing at user groups (what concept that is!), and prevents the event becoming a vendorfest for the hawking of softwarez.
To whit. The steering committee is looking for submissions from folks of a community flavour. You don’t have to be from the UK, but sadly the VMUG can’t help you with your travel costs. Heck, you can even work for vendor/partner/reseller/ so long as your content is from the community, by the community and for the community – and not shameless excuse to plug your employer!
I will be attending & presenting. I hope to have a community session and breakout – but I’d be happy with a community session – and just like last year I will be attending all the community sessions in attempt to support all those concerned. Yes, I ask questions at VMUGs. But mainly to encourage others to do so because there’s one thing that all presenters dread – deathly silence.
